In all I do, creativity & meaning are my compass

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, and rooted on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo, I create art that is shaped by my ‘life-thus-far’ spent attuned to both beauty and impermanence. Reflecting on my place within and across these regions & beyond, the journey not just geographic but personal evolution, a relationship with places, time, self and others; the push & pull of holding on and letting go, permanence and change, loss and the urgency to live fully. These places inspire the work and shape its very pulse. As a licenced Funeral Director and Embalmer, I’m in tune with the body’s quiet systems: the vessels, the flow, the halted rhythm of a once-beating heart. The circulatory system, even in stillness, told a story of a life carried, of moments moved through the blood, the unseen currents that once kept everything alive. In the outdoors, I feel that same invisible network and the landscape that pulses. Rivers become arteries, tree roots reach like veins, and the wind moves like breath through the forest’s lungs. Nature has always been my constant, offering perspective and solace.  The heart of the wild is everywhere; it’s beating in the wings of the crows, in the crash of Pacific waves, in the stillness of the fog and deep inhale of the rain drizzle. Just like every part of the body is connected through its pulse, so too is every element of the natural world alive, whole. I am listening for the deeper beat that continues. In creating art and living on purpose, it’s a way to slow down, to listen, and to honour what passes through and from within us. Walking in the wilderness is returning to the heart, to feel the living rhythm that threads us back into something bigger than our ‘self’. It connects us all to a greater network of… LIFE.  So slow down, breathe it all in deeply, seize the moment! Find warmth & vitality in the natural cycles that remind us everything is always becoming and we always belong there. Even in change or uncertainty, there’s something steady beneath our feet and reverberating beneath our rib cage.
