The Bowen Road Crows…
They bring me so much joy on the day to day. Filling in, in the meantime, for the non-existent cat I have. I can’t even explain them or why we were drawn to each other. But they showed up one day out of the blue, about two years ago during some dark soul days of mine. An immediate connection to them, to hope, knowing they were sent from beyond, looking out for me & had some kind of message to bring. It sounds like I’m crazy. And I assure you I am. In a good way though. So for some reason, these crows are in my life, I look for them, and forward to them each morning. I see them standing on the street circus poles, on Bowen Road, and the high peak of the building across the side street, watching me like black hawks, though much smarter. They have figured out my schedule. I have figured out their conversations with each other. I love looking up at them looking down at me. Their eyes close up, reading, observing, determining, are quite something. Some days they go to the beach or the pub, and I don’t see them. There’s regulars. There’s others who drop in at random. Then there’s the winter crowd. But they always return to me. I signal to them, or call, or sing a tune I made up, and they fly in. Often a couple feet away. Not too close, but I swear someday I will have one on top of my head. They inspire me in more ways than I know. Or understand. So many pictures of them, captured in my mind, like a mental gallery I walk through at whim and relish in all their individual and murderous quirkiness and I laugh out loud at the absurdity of these crows…
